[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 21일 의정부시장 안병용은 경기도 교육감 출마에 꿈을 접고 불출마를 선언했다.

안병용 시장은 "코로나19 신종 오미크론이 걷잡을 수 없이 커져 시장 직위 비워두는것은 무책임하다. 몇 개월 전부터 의정부시의 정가는 여야 할 것 없이 정책과정을 하나둘씩 비판하고 부정하고 탄핵하고 나서, 공무원들이 당황해하고 흔들리는 모습이다. 의정부 시장 직위를 최선을 다해 끝까지 수행할 것이다." 고 말했다.

이처럼 안병용 시장은 현재 오미크론으로 고통 받는 시민들과 불안해하는 공무원들을 위해 혼란스러운 의정부시를 떠나지 않겠다고 말하며, 3년 연속 의정부시장을 연임했던 책임감 있는 모습을 보여줬다.

또한, 남은 인기동안에도 시민들에게 약속한 희망도시 의정부, 잘사는 의정부를 만들기 위해 일 할 것을 다시 한번 당부했다.

한편, 의정부시장 안병용은 공직선거법상 90일 이전에 사퇴하려던 모든 계획을 취소하고 현 이재정 교육감의 재출마 여부도 불확실한 상황이라고 밝혔다.
