[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시는 스마트폰 이용 보행자의 교통사고 예방을 위해 보행자가 많은 원주의료원 사거리와 치악예술관 삼거리 등 2개소에 LED 바닥형 보행신호등을 시범 설치했다고 밝혔다.

도비 75백만 원을 포함한 총사업비 150백만 원을 투입해 6월 말 설치를 완료했으며, LED 바닥형 보행신호등은 횡단보도 신호 대기선에 LED 램프를 설치해 전방주시 미흡에 따른 보행자 사고를 예방할 수 있는 보조장치다.

바닥 신호등 설치로 보행 중 휴대전화 사용자뿐만 아니라 운전자의 주의를 환기시켜 교통사고를 예방하는 것은 물론 도심 경관도 개선될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

이길복 교통행정과장은 “올해 시범 설치한 바닥 신호등의 사업효과를 분석해 유동인구가 많은 지역부터 확대 설치를 검토하겠다 ”라고 말했다.
