[김일웅 기자= 경기북부/강원] 안병용 의정부시장이 21일 의정부 시청 대강당에서 기자회견을 열고 의정부 시민들과 임기를 마치겠다는 기자 회견을 했다.

이는 오미크론 확산이 급속도로 번지면서 자신의 꿈 보다 시민들의 고통과 소상공인들의 어려움을 외면 할 수 없다는 게 안 시장의 입장이다. 

안 시장은 교직원, 교수직, 교육경력으로 의정부에서 3선을 지낸 시장이다. 약 10여 년 동안 의정부의 살림을 맡았던 안 시장의 꿈은 교육자의 길을 걸어오면서 경기도 교육감이라는 원대한 꿈을 가지고 있었다. 

최근, 2월1일부터 경기도 지사와 경기 교육감 예비후보등록이 시작 됐지만, 안 시장은 후보등록을 하지 않겠다고 선언한 것이다.

일각에서는 안 시장이 국회의원의 꿈을 갖고 오히려 교육감을 포기하는 것 아니냐는 의혹도 제기 되는 가운데 안 시장은 결코 그렇지 않다는 입장이다.

안 시장은 “현재 민주당에서 제명당한 상태에서 국회의원 출마는 불가하다. 복당을 통해 당원 당규를 통해 절차적인 방법으로 진행 될 거다.”라고 답했다.

이는 긍정도 부정도 아닌 것이어서 국회의원 출마설에 힘이 실리는 모양 세다. 안 시장이 임기 마지막까지 완주하는 것은 지역민들의 고통과 소상공인들의 어려운 삶을 외면하는 시장이 아닌 방역의 최종 책임을 수행할 시장으로 남겠다는 말을 의정부 시민들의 몫으로 남게 됐다.
