[남상훈 기자 = 의정부] 지난 6일 김동근 의정부시장이 자일동 현충탑에서 거행된 국가수호를 위해 헌신한 호국영령의 거룩한 희생을 기리는 ‘제68회 현충일 추념식’에 참석했다고 밝혔다.

이 자리에는 김 시장을 비롯해 경기도 행정2부지사, 보훈가족 및 국회의원, 도·시의원, 각급 기관단체장, 시민 등 600여 명이 참석했다. 행사를 위해 의정부시는 이날 참여 시민들의 교통편의를 위해 의정부역 등 5개 장소에 현충탑까지 버스 5대를 운행했다. 

추념식은 추념 사이렌을 시작으로 순국선열 및 호국영령에 대한 묵념, 헌화‧분향, 추념사, 추도사, 추모헌시 낭독, 현충일 노래 제창 등 현충일에 맞게 엄숙하게 진행됐다.

김동근 시장은 추념사를 통해 “오늘날 우리가 누리고 있는 자유와 평화는 순국선열과 호국영령들의 용기와 희생이 있었기에 가능했던 소중한 결실”이라며, “후손들이 호국보훈의 뜻과 정신을 기릴 수 있는 공간인 현충탑 메모리얼파크를 조성해 보훈문화의 열린 공간으로 미래세대인 시민과 함께 가꿔 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 의정부시는 호국·보훈의 달을 맞아 6·25전쟁 제73주년 기념행사와 전적지 순례 등 다양한 호국보훈행사를 추진할 계획이다.
