[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 양주시는 지난 5월 27일과 6월 9일 두 차례에 걸쳐 탄소중립 실천을 위해 ‘2022년 꼬마농부학교 체험교육’을 관내 어린이집 총 397명의 원아가 참여하여 성황리에 마무리했다고 밝혔다.

이번 교육은 농촌문화를 접하기 어려운 도시 어린이들이 다양한 농업체험 활동을 통해 농업에 대한 소중함을 느끼고 탄소 흡수원으로서 식물의 가치를 일깨우기 위해 마련했고, 지난 2021년 상자텃밭 운영 우수 어린이집으로 선정된 사랑숲, 덕정따복, 자연사랑, 행복플러스, 회천, 꿈동이 등 6개 어린이집이 참여했다.

코로나19 사회적 거리두기 조치가 해제됐지만 잔존하는 감염 위험으로부터 아동들을 보호하기 위해 줌(ZOOM)을 활용한 온라인 비대면 방식으로 진행됐다.

참여 아동들은 유아 학습용 실내 원예활동 키트로 잔디인형 만들기와 꽃바구니 만들기 활동에 참여해 작물을 직접 심고 가꾸며 탄소 흡수원으로서 식물의 역할과 중요성에 대해 느끼고 체험하는 시간을 가졌다고 했다.

체험교육에 참여한 한 어린이집 원장은 “지난해 상자텃밭을 가꾸는 실습에 즐겁게 참여한 원아들이 이번 활동에도 큰 흥미를 느끼며 체험활동에 몰두했다”며 “기후변화 대응과 탄소 저감을 위한 다양한 생활 실천 방안 등을 아이들과 함께 더 고민해 보겠다”라고 말했다.

전춘 양주시농업기술센터 소장은 “이번 체험활동을 통해 아동들이 환경과 먹거리에 대한 관심을 갖고 탄소중립을 위한 작은 실천을 실행하는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “도심 속 생태공간을 적극 활용해 농업·농촌의 중요성을 널리 알릴 수 있는 다채로운 체험 프로그램을 실시하겠다”고 말했다.
