[김준호 기자=동해시] 동해시(시장 심규언)는 강원도 내 시 단위 지자체단체 중 박물관이 없는 문화소외지역으로써, 지역균형개발 도모를 위헤 총 사업비 290억여 원을 투입해 시립박물관 건립을 추진한다.

시는, 현재까지 발굴된 유물이 강원도기념물 90호로 지정된 삼화동 고려고분 등 1만 6천여 점에 달하지만, 국립춘천박물관, 강원문화재연구소 등에서 보관‧관리되고 있는 실정이다.

이에따라, 이번 박물관 건립 추진을 통해 전시, 교육, 체험 등의 공간 창출로 지역민들의 문화허브로서의 역할 수행과 시의 정체성 확립 등 관광객들에게 시를 대외적으로 알리는 홍보시설로 활용하고 지역경제를 활성화 한다는 방침이다.

올 상반기 박물관 건립 기본구상 및 타당성 용역을 수행을 통해 문화체육관광부 공립박물관 설립타당성 사전 평가 1차 신청과 내년 상반기 사전 평가 2차 신청, 2025년 실시설계에 이어 2027년도에 시립박물관 완공을 목표로 추진한다는 계획이다.
