[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 양주시는 오는 8월 19일까지 돌발해충 확산방지·피해 최소화를 위해 집중 협업방제 기간으로 정하고 방제에 적극 나섰다고 밝혔다.

이번 방제는 신속한 방제를 위해 지역책임담당제로 운영되며 시 기술지원과, 산림휴양과, 공원사업과, 읍면동, 은현농협, 남면농협 등 민관 합동으로 방제요원 15명, 방제차량 7대, 드론 13대를 투입해 240ha를 방제할 예정이다.

주요 방제 대상은 여름철 고온다습한 환경에 기승을 부리는 미국 선녀벌레, 갈색날개매미충, 꽃매미, 매미나방, 미국흰불나방 등 5종이다.

돌발해충은 잎을 갉아 먹고 수액을 빨아 먹어 나무를 말라 죽게 하고 왁스 물질을 분비해 외관상 혐오감을 주며 그을음병을 유발해 농림지와 생활지에 피해와 민원을 초래한다.

시 관계자는 “돌발해충을 적기에 방제하지 않으면 농작물 품질 저하로 농민들에게 큰 어려움을 줄 수 있으니 방제에 총력을 기울이겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 시는 지난 6월과 7월 돌발해충 약충기 협업방제 기간에 농경지, 산림지, 공원, 도로, 학교 등 94.6ha에 공동방제를 실시한 바 있다.
