[안종욱 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 가평군은 조종중·고등학교 진입로에 지난 5월 18일부터 31일까지 벽화그리기 사업을 진행하였다고 밝혔다. 

학교 교직원 및 재학생, 지역주민, 수도기계화보병사단 군수지원대 5개 단체 등 40여명이 참여하여 조종중·고등학교 진입로를 알록 달록 동심의 옷으로 갈아입혔다.

이번 조종중·고등학교 진입로 담장은 학생들에게 문화예술 체험기회를 제공하고 경관개선의 중요성을 알리기 위해 기획하였다. 

‘물·별·숲, 우정과 추억, 내가 하고 싶은 것, 내가 되고 싶은 것’을 주제로 학교에서 선정한 학생 공모작 30점을 벽화로 구현해냈고, 특히 이번 벽화는 조종면에 주둔해있는 수도화기계보병사단 군수지원대와 학교교직원, 재학생, 지역주민 등이 함께 힘을 모아 그려 더 큰 의미가 있다.

가평군은 이번 벽화에 작품설명서를 부착하여 벽화를 지나쳐 보는 데 그치지 않고 교육의 장으로 활용하도록 추진할 계획이며 앞으로도 주민이 참여하는 벽화사업을 추진하여 관광자원화 할 계획을 갖고 있다.  

가평군은 범죄를 예방하고 경관을 개선하며, 쓰레기 무단투기 예방에도 효과가 있는 벽화 그리기 사업을 지난 2019년부터 관련 경험이 있는 전문가를 채용하여 본격적으로 진행하고 있다. 

가평초등학교 앞 등굣길 개선사업, 읍내8리 마을벽화, 터미널 인근 개선사업 등 기존의 낡은 벽에 벽화를 그려 도시 전체에 생기를 불어넣고 있다.

가평군 관계자는 “넓은 벽면에 그리는 벽화작업이 쉽지 않은데 함께 힘을 모아준 수도화기계보병사단 군수지원대와 학교교직원, 지역주민과 학생들 모두에게 감사드린다.”며 “더운 날씨에도 즐겁게 참여해준 학생들이 등하굣길에 벽화를 보면서 행복하고 신나는 학창시절을 보내기를 바란다.”고 전했다.
