이날 추모식에는 20년전 주한미군 장갑차량에 치여 사망한 두 여중생을 추모하기 위해 마을 시민단체 회원들과 종교인 등이 참석했다.

사격장에서는 해마다 전차포 사격과 전술훈련을 약 10여 차례 실시되고 있다. 훈련에 참여하는 전차는 K1-A2 전차이며, 크기는 전장 9.71m, 전폭 3.6m, 전고 2.25m, 중량 54.5 톤의 대형으로 분류된다.

지난 5월 국방부는 상판리 거접 사격장 주변 토지 총 2천 500여 필지 약 3천 200만 제곱미터를 매입을 하고 1차, 2차, 3차 협의까지 주민 합의가 원활하게 진행되지 않는다면 강제수용 절차에 들어간다고 밝혔다.
