[김현우 기자 = 가평] 가평군은 자라섬 봄 꽃 축제가 개최된지 3년만에 ‘2023년 경기관광축제’에 최초로 선정됐다고 28일 밝혔다. 

 

앞서 자라섬은 한국관광공사가 진행하는‘2023~2024년 한국관광 100선’에도 처음으로 선정돼 명실상부한 우리나라 대표 관광지로 인정받기도 했다. 

 

가평군에 따르면 최근 경기관광공사는 지역축제심의위원회를 통해  자라섬 봄 꽃 축제를 올해 경기관광축제로 선정하고 다양한 콘텐츠와 볼거리를 제공할 수 있는 사업비 7000만원을 지원키로 했다고 밝혔다.

 

이에 경기관광축제와 한국관광 100선이 연계해 자라섬을 거점으로 국내외 홍보에 큰 시너지 효과를 얻을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

  

가평대표 축제인 자라섬 꽃 축제는 북한강 수변을 따라 자라섬 남도 11만여㎡에 꽃양귀비, 유채꽃, 수레국화, 백일홍, 해바라기, 코스모스 등 봄․가을별 10여종 넘는 다양한 꽃들을 보식 관리해 볼거리를 제공하고 있다.

 

2019년 처음으로 자라섬 남도를 ‘꽃섬’으로 탈바꿈시킨 이후, 2021년 3만5000여명, 2022년 6만3000여명이 방문해 지역경제에 활력을 불어 넣었다.

금년 봄 꽃 축제는 5월 20일부터 6월 9일까지 개최할 예정이다. 코로나19 팬데믹 이후, 처음으로 열리는 행사인 만큼 다양한 프로그램을 준비해 관광객을 맞이할 계획이다. 

 

가평군 관계자는 “자라섬이 한국관광 100선에 이어 경기관광축제로 선정돼 한국을 대표하며, 외국인 관광객에게도 널리 알려진 명실상부 대한민국 대표 관광지로 인정받게 됐다”며 “자라섬을 거점으로 다양한 관광콘텐츠 개발을 통해 글로벌 관광도시로 육성해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

 

한편, 2020년 한국 야간경관 100선에서 선정된바 있는 자라섬은 61만4천㎡ 크기로 인근 남이섬의 1.5배다. 

 

북한강 가운데 있으며 동도와 서도, 남도, 중도 등 4개 섬으로 이루어졌다.

 

각 섬은 계절마다 각각의 다양한 특색을 보유하고 있어 가평군의 대표적 자연생태관광지로 꼽힌다.

 

특히 ‘가평세계캠핑캐라바닝대회’ 개최지인 자라섬 캠핑장이 있는 서도, 대한민국 대표 축제이자 세계적인 축제로 꼽히는 ‘자라섬 국제재즈페스티벌’이 열리는 축제 공연의 상징인 동도, 수변정원에 다양한 계절꽃으로 꾸며져 매년 봄·가을 꽃정원 축제가 열리는 자라섬 남도까지 1년 내내 즐길 거리가 가득한 축제의 섬이다.
