[남상훈 기자 = 의정부시] 지난 22일 김동근 의정부시장이 ‘현장 출동, 김동근이 달려갑니다’의 일환으로 의정부시 신곡동 소재 경기도시각장애인복지관을 방문했다고 밝혔다.

시각장애인들에게 기초재활 교육 제공 및 인식개선사업, 편의시설 실태조사, 조사연구사업을 진행하는 등 시각장애인들의 삶의 질을 향상하기 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이고 있는 시설이다.

이날 김동근 의정부시장은 복지관 관계자들과 함께 시설 라운딩 및 간담회를 통해 시각장애인에게 제공되고 있는 프로그램과 관련해 질문·답변을 주고받았다. 복지관 이전 등 현안 사항에 대해서도 청취했다.

김 시장은 “시각장애인분들에게 더 나은 삶을 지원하기 위한 시설 종사자들의 수고에 감사드린다”며, “시각장애인분들의 어려움에 공감하게 되는 기회가 되었다”고 말했다.

한편, 민선 8기 의정부시는 누구나 차별 없이 행복할 권리가 있는 장애인이 행복한 도시라는 정책목표 아래 장애인 복지증진을 위한 9가지의 공약사항을 계획·실행 중이다.
