[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 11월 19일 의정부시는 성인 발달장애인의 복지증진을 위해 의정부시발달장애인평생교육지원센터를 호국로 1319, 남평프라자 7층에 개소했다고 밝혔다.

센터는 발달장애인의 학령기 이후의 지속적인 교육 기회 제공과 더불어 사회참여에 어려움을 겪고 있는 발달장애인들을 위한 평생교육의 기회를 제공하기 위한 목적으로 설립됐다고 했다.

이경재 의정부시발달장애인평생교육지원센터장은 발달장애인의 평생교육 지원을 위한 전담기구로서 발달장애인들을 위한 정책연구 및 욕구 조사, 발달장애인을 위한 프로그램 및 교재 개발, 의정부시 발달장애인 관련 기관 및 단체와의 통합적 관리체계 구축 및 네트워크 활성화, 전문화된 강사 양성 등 특화된 사업을 추진하게 된다고 전했다.

이날 개소식은 안병용 의정부시장과 지역사회의 국회의원 및 도·시의원, 의정부시 발달장애인 관련 기관 및 단체장, 특수학교장 등 70여 명이 참석한 가운데 현판제막식 및 시설 라운딩 순으로 진행됐다고 했다.

안병용 의정부시장은 “성인 발달장애인의 욕구와 개인별 특성에 맞는 평생교육 지원 체계를 구축해 발달장애인과 그 가족이 지역사회 내에서 더불어 생활하도록 질 높은 맞춤형 평생교육 사업을 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
