[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 2월 25일, 동두천시 보훈회관 개관식이 삼육사로 1051 신축 보훈회관에서 개최되었다고 밝혔다.

개관식에는 시장과 시의회 의장, 경기북부보훈지청장, 이정식 보훈단체협의회장을 비롯한 관내 보훈단체 회원, 시·도의원 등 60여 명이 참석하여 보훈회관의 준공 및 개관을 축하하였고, 개관식은 경과보고, 유공자 표창 및 기념사·축사의 1부 기념식과 현판제막 및 테이프 커팅, 시설 견학의 2부로 나뉘어 진행됐으며 최근 코로나19 확산 상황을 고려하여 감염예방을 위해 소규모로 개최되었다고 전했다.

신축 보훈회관은 총사업비 27억7천3백만 원을 투입하여 연면적 995.77㎡, 지상 1층~4층 규모로 건축되었으며 9개 보훈단체 사무실, 대회의실, 관리실 등으로 구성되었고, 보훈회관은 국가를 위해 희생·공헌한 국가보훈대상자의 복지증진 및 소통의 공간으로 활용될 예정이라고 했다.

동두천시장은 기념사에서 “동두천시 보훈회관 건립에 도움을 주신 모든 분들께 감사의 말씀을 드리며, 국가유공자와 후손들에게 자긍심을 고취하고 감사의 뜻을 전할 수 있도록 더욱 최선의 노력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
