[남상훈 기자 = 동두천] 지난 28일 박형덕 동두천시장이 민선8기 출범 1주년을 맞아 시청 소회의실에서 언론인 30여 명이 참석한 가운데 언론 브리핑을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 

박 시장은 이날 브리핑에서 지난 1년간의 소회와 함께 시정 성과와 향후 계획을 밝히고 차질 없는 공약 이행을 약속했다. 

주요 성과로는 -시민중심 소통행정 실현, -부동산 조정대상지역 해제, -시청 빙상단 재창단, -산림치유원 담금센터 착공, -반다비 체육센터 준공, -경로당 힐링의자 보급, -장애인보호자 쉼&힐링센터 개소, -대학생 주거비 장학금 신설, -동두천형 무상교복 지원, -출산장려금 지급액 확대 및 산후조리비 지원, -경기 동북부 공공의료원 유치 추진, -상패동 대형자동차 공영주차장 준공, -철도건설기금 조성 등을 꼽았다. 

또한 향후 계획으로 70년 국가안보를 위해 동두천시민이 감내해야 했던 ‘특별한 희생’에 대해 정당한 보상과 지원이 이뤄져야 한다고 강조하면서 정부에 주한미군 공여지 반환과 관련해 적극적인 대책 마련을 촉구하고 지역발전 범시민대책위원회와 함께 동두천지원특별법 제정 운동을 이어갈 계획이라고 밝혔다. 여기에 GTX-C노선 동두천 연장, 국가산업단지 확대 개발, 반려동물 테마파크 조성 등 동두천시의 미래를 획기적으로 바꿀 역점사업 추진에 더욱 박차를 가하겠다고 덧붙였다.

박형덕 시장은 “지난 1년간 새로운 동두천을 만들기 위한 기반을 구축하는 데 온 힘을 쏟았다. 변화와 발전에 대한 시민들의 열망과 노력으로 주목할 만한 성과도 있었다”면서 “남은 임기 동안 처음의 마음을 잊지 않고 시민과의 약속을 착실히 실현해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
