[남상훈 기자 = 의정부] 지난 2일 의정부시는 자활근로 사업단인 편의점사업단을 통해 저소득층에 대한 근로기회 제공으로 지역사회의 구성원으로써 자립할 수 있도록 CU으뜸편의점 1호점 개점식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 개점식은 사업추진경과 보고, 축사, 케이크커팅 등의 순서로 진행됐으며, 복지정책과장, 의정부지역자활센터 운영위원, 센터장 및 지역주민 등 20여 명이 참석해 편의점 사업단의 희망찬 새출발을 응원했다.

편의점사업단은 경기의정부지역자활센터와 GS리테일 간 업무협약을 통해 근로능력 있는 저소득층 주민에게 편의점 매장 관리 및 운영 노하우를 익혀 창업의 기틀을 제공하는 자활근로 사업단이며, 편의점 운영에 따라 발생한 수익금은 참여자 성과금 지원 및 일자리 확대 등 자활사업을 활성화하기 위한 비용으로 활용할 계획이다.

한편, 의정부시는 자활사업을 통해 현재 14개 사업단(월평균 근로자 290명)을 운영 중이며, 기초생활보장수급자 등 저소득층에게 지속가능한 근로 기회를 제공하기 위해 청소, 호스피스, 카페, 편의점, 임가공, 카드배송, 유아식기세척, 음식점(오백국수 호원점) 등 다양한 일자리 모형의 자활근로 사업단을 구성해 운영 중이다.

김동근 의정부시장은 “저소득층이 성공적인 자립에 한발 더 도약할 수 있는 기반을 마련할 수 있도록 의정부시만의 특화된 자활사업을 발굴해 내 삶을 바꾸는 도시, 의정부를 만들기 위한 복지정책을 적극 추진하겠다”고 전했다.
