[남상훈 기자 = 의정부] 지난 22일 김동근 의정부시장이 장애인과 비장애인이 어울려 직동공원 산책로를 등반하는 ‘제11회 의정부시 어울림 등반대회’에 참석했다고 밝혔다.

이번 대회는 의정부시장애인체육회와 의정부시장애인산악연맹이 주최 및 주관하고 의정부시가 후원했다. 개회식에 참석한 김동근 시장과 참석 내빈들은 의례적인 축사 대신 카드 퍼포먼스를 통해 참가자들에게 희망 메시지를 전달했다. 

화창한 날씨 속에 의정부 대표적 명소인 소풍길에서 열렸으며 장애인 500명, 비장애인 200명 등 총 700여 명이 참가했다. 참가자들은 가족 및 봉사자들의 도움을 받아 산행했으며, 의정부예술의전당에서부터 직동공원 축구장까지 약 3km 구간을 등반하며 소통과 화합의 시간을 가졌다. 주최 측에서 안전관리에 각별한 주의를 기울인 덕분에 한 건의 안전사고 없이 무사히 목적지까지 도착했다. 특히 직동공원에 펼쳐진 형형색색의 튤립이 장관을 이뤄 대회를 더욱 풍성하게 했다.

김동근 시장은 “평소 체육활동 기회가 부족한 장애인들이 이번 대회를 통해 봄의 정취를 만끽하고 마음에 평안을 얻기를 바란다”며, “장애인이 행복한 도시 의정부를 만들기 위해 더욱 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
