북부지방산림청과 홍천국유림관리소, 원주시, 횡성군은 이번 소나무류 이동 특별단속기간 중 소나무류 불법 벌채 및 무단 이동해 적발된 화목농가 2건에 대해 사법처리를 진행중이며 출처 미상의 소나무류 가지를 소량 보유한 화목사용농가와 생산유통자료 등 일부 구비서류가 미흡한 소나무류 취급업체에 대하여 소나무재선충병과 소나무류 이동에 대한 홍보와 계도를 병행했다. 

위반행위가 적발되면 '소나무재선충병 방제특별법'에 따라 최고 1년 이하의 징역 또는 1천만원 이하의 벌금이 부과되며, 소나무재선충병이 걸린 피해목을 무단 이동할 경우 매개충으로 인해 소나무재선충병 피해가 확산될 수 있다.

임하수 북부지방산림청장은 “화목가격 상승으로 일부 화목농가에서 산림 내 소나무류 가지 등을 이용하는 경우가 있다. 향후 취약계층 화목농가를 대상으로 사랑의 땔감(비소나무류) 지원을 확대하여 소나무재선충병 인위적 확산방지와 더불어 농·산촌 마을 지원정책을 펼칠수 있는 방안에 대하여 확대 검토하겠다.”고 전했다.
