세부관리 방향으로는 소나무재선충병 발생으로 인해 반출이 금지된 구역 내에서도 공익적으로 우수하거나, 유전자원보호 등 중요한 구역을 집중 관리하고, 완충구역은 재선충병 확산 방지를 위해 인접 지역에 선제적으로 임업적·화학적 방제를 통해 확산을 저지함으로써, 청정구역의 잣나무림을 보호하고 우량 대경제로 육성하는 것이 주요 목표라고 전했다.

북부지방산림청장은 “지속적인 소나무재선충병의 확산으로 잣나무림의 경영 및 관리가 어려운 상황에서 이번 연구용역을 통해 체계적인 관리방안을 제시함으로써 우리나라 고유 수종인 잣나무림을 지키기 위해 최선을 다하겠다.”라고 밝혔다.
