[남상훈 기자 = 원주] 5일 북부지방산림청은 제78회 식목일 및 국토녹화 50주년을 맞아 홍천군에서 나무심기 행사를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 북부지방산림청, 홍천국유림관리소, 국유림영림단, 산림조합중앙회 산림사업본부, 홍천군산림조합, 상지대학교 등 140여명이 참석해, 나무심기를 통한 탄소중립 녹색성장에 기여했다.

행사는 지난해 6월 산불방지를 위한 안전공간 조성사업지로, 산불에 취약한 기존 칩엽수가 일정 구역 제거된 곳이다. 북부지방산림청은 이번 나무심기를 통해 활엽수를 식재해 활엽수림 또는 혼효림으로 갱신해 산불 등 재해에 보다 강한 산림을 조성하는 역할을 기대하고 있다.

임하수 북부지방산림청장은 “식목일 및 국토녹화 50주년을 맞아 국민들께서도 내 집 주변 한 그루 나무심기에 동참해 주시길 당부드린다”고 말했다.
