[최남일 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 6일 본지는 ‘[단독] 충격! 가평 유력 언론인 1천만원 금품 수수 '의혹'’이라는 제목의 기사를 보도했다. 기사가 보도된 이후 반응은 대단했다. 가평군 유력언론인이 기업으로부터 1천만원 금품을 제공받았다는 사실에 많은 사람들은 분노와 경악을 금하지 못했다. 

 

본지는 회의를 통해 후속 보도를 결정했고, 두번째로 가평 C수상레저 전 대표로부터 제보받은 내용 중 언론인 정 모씨 관련 기사를 내보내기로 결정했다. 

 

정 씨는 2020년 5월 11일 이 씨 등이 제보한 가평C수상레저의 불법사실을 고발하는 기사를 보도했다. ‘특별기획 "북한강의 눈물" M&A전문가의 두 얼굴’이라는 제목의 보도를 한 것이다.

이후 정 씨는 권 회장으로부터 10억을 받기 위해 C레저의 불법사실들을 고발하는 기사를 집중 보도한다. 

 

이 과정에서 이 씨는 정 씨에게 돈을 송금한다. 정 씨가 생활비 등 금전을 요구했다는 것이 이 씨의 설명이다.

약속 믿은 이 씨, 4500만원 제공

 

이처럼 10억을 받아준다는 정 씨의 약속을 믿은 이 씨는 총 13회에 걸쳐 4700여만원의 금품을 제공한다. 

 

이 씨가 최초로 돈을 송금한 날짜는 2020년 5월 13일이다. 이날 이 씨는 정 씨 농협계좌로 500만원을 송금했다. 5월 13일은 N00뉴스를 통해 ‘특별기획 "북한강의 눈물" M&A전문가의 두 얼굴’이라는 제목의 기사를 보도한 지 이틀이 지난 후로 최초 송금이 이뤄진 것이다.  

 

이 씨는 500만 송금 후 2주일이 지난 27일 600만원을 추가로 송금한다. 이날 이 씨가 정 씨 계좌로 추가 송금한 이유는 변호사비 대납이었다. 

 

당시 정 씨는 C레저를 향한 기사를 집중보도했고, C레저 권 회장은 정 씨를 명예훼손으로 고소해 변호사비를 송금하게 됐다는 것이 이 씨의 주장이다. 

 

이 씨는 정 씨 계좌로 직접 송금 방식을 택하지 않고 지인들의 계좌를 통해 송금하는 방식을 선택했다.  

 

자신이 소유한 L사 계좌에서 지인들의 계좌로 송금하고, 이후 지인들은 정 씨 농협계좌(3511.....)로 다시 송금한 것이다. 

 

한 달에 한 번 이상 어려움 호소한 정 씨

 

이 씨가 이처럼 금전을 제공할 수밖에 없었던 이유로 정 씨가 습관처럼 금전적 어려움을 호소했기 때문이라고 주장했다. 

 

그러나 정 씨는 금전을 받은 지 채 한 달이 지나지 않아 또 다시 "어렵다"고 말하며 돈을 보내 줄 것을 돌려서 표현했고, 10억을 받아준다는 말을 믿은 이 씨는 돈을 줄 수밖에 없었다고 설명했다. 

 

앞서 정 씨는 C레저로부터 금전을 받을 당시에도 빌려달라는 말을 한 정황을 살펴볼 때 이씨 주장은 설득력이 있는 것으로 보였다. 

 

그러나 이 씨는 정 씨가 받아주기로 약속한 10억을 받지 못했다. 또, 이 씨는 10억을 받기 위해 정 씨에게 제공한 4500만원 조차 돌려받지 못하는 신세가 됐다.

 

정 씨 변심 결과는 사법처리?

 

한 때, 이 씨는 정 씨를 아버지라 부르며 진심으로 믿었다고 말했다. 그러나 아버지라 불리던 정 씨는 이 씨와 약속을 외면했다. 

 

정 씨가 C레저 권 회장과 어떤 합의를 했는지는 몰라도 현재 정 씨 소유 N00뉴스에는 C레저 배너광고가 게재돼 있다. 

 

만약 이 씨의 주장이 사실이라면 정 씨는 대중으로부터 손가락질을 받을 수 있다. 마치 해결사와 같으며 언론인의 품격을 떨어트리는 모습을 보인 것이다.
