[남상훈 기자 = 원주] 10일부터 오는 6월 30일까지 북부지방산림청장은 홍천군 창촌리 주목 등 관내 보호수 9본에 대한 현장 점검을 실시할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

'산림보호법'에 따라 지정된 북부지방산림청 관내 보호수는 홍천군 내면 창촌리 1130여 년 된 주목을 비롯해 소나무, 돌배나무 등 5수종 9본이다. 북부지방산림청 및 관할 국유림관리소(홍천, 인제, 민북지역) 합동으로 보호수 생육상태 및 훼손여부 등을 파악할 예정이다. 

또한 생활권 인근 보호수로 인한 경관 저해 및 자연재해로 인한 안전사고 발생 위험 여부를 사전에 파악하여 보호수로 인한 인근 주민 피해를 예방할 계획이다. 이번 일제 점검 결과를 토대로 전문적 수목 생육진단, 시설물 정비사업 등 보호수 생육환경 개선에 필요한 조치를 추가 검토하여 보호수에 대한 보호·관리를 강화할 방침이다.

임하수 북부지방산림청장은 “보호수는 인문·역사·학술적 가치가 결합된 소중한 산림문화자산이다.”라며 “보호수의 체계적인 관리와 건전하고 안전한 국민 생활권 보장을 위해 정기적인 점검과 적극적인 조치를 이어가겠다.”고 말했다.
