[남상훈 기자] 지난 7일 캠코는 경기도 수원시 권선구에 위치한 ‘참아름지역아동센터’에서 지역 아동‧청소년을 위한 '캠코브러리 37호점' 개소식을 가졌다고 밝혔다.

캠코브러리는 ‘캠코(KAMCO)’와 ‘도서관(Library)’의 합성어로, 캠코가 어린이‧청소년 학습환경 개선과 독서활동 지원을 위해 지역아동센터 내 노후 공간을 리모델링해 작은 도서관을 마련해주는 캠코의 대표적 교육 사회공헌활동이다.

캠코브러리 37호점은 지난 2017년 수원시 영통구에 개소한 14호점에 이어 수원시에 설치되는 두 번째 도서관이다. 이날 행사에는 권남주 캠코 사장과 백혜련 국회의원, 이재정 대한적십자사 경기도지사 회장 등이 참석해 개소를 축하했다. 

캠코는 아동들이 쾌적한 환경에서 독서활동을 할 수 있도록 참아름지역아동센터의 노후 공간을 리모델링했다. 또 책상·책장 등 신규 비품은 물론 전문도서를 비롯한 청소년 권장 도서 약 500권도 기증했다. 이와함께 향후 5년간 도서 구입(약 2천권) 및 독서 지도와 문화체험 활동을 체계적으로 지원하는 한편 직장체험, 캠코 직원 재능기부 등 다양한 사회공헌 활동도 함께 펼쳐나갈 계획이다.

한편, 캠코는 지난 2015년부터 지금까지 전국에 총 37개 캠코브러리를 설치했으며, 도서 6만여 권과 독서지도프로그램 약 11,296시간을 지원하는 등 문화·교육 사각지대에 있는 아동·청소년들에게 학습지원과 함께 양질의 독서환경을 제공하기 위해 노력하고 있다.

권남주 캠코 사장은 “아이들이 마음껏 책을 읽을 수 있는 공간을 마련해 주는 것은 희망찬 미래를 위한 값진 투자”라며, “앞으로도 캠코는 아동·청소년들을 위한 다양한 교육기부활동을 추진해 지역사회 인재 육성을 돕는 등 공공기관으로서 사회적 책임을 다 하겠다”고 말했다.
