흥선동에 거주하는 김모(40)씨는 오래전 배우자와 이혼하고 홀로 어린 두 자녀를 양육하고 있으며, 생활고와 정신질환 의심자로 의정부시 여성가족과, 흥선동 행정복지센터, 경기북부아동보호전문기관 등이 개입하여 지원을 하고 있다고 했다.

발견 당시 대상 가구의 주거환경은 오래된 음식과 쓰레기 더미에서 곰팡이와 벌레가 생겨 건강을 위협받는 열악한 환경에 거주하고 있었으며, 이에 따라 흥선동 지역사회보장협의체 및 마을복지계획 추진단에서 김씨를 행복한보금자리 대상자로 선정해 흥선동 바르게살기위원회와 힘을 합쳐 청소 및 정리정돈, 소독 등 주거환경 전반을 개선했다고 전했다.

김남희 흥선동 바르게살기위원회 회장은 “애기 엄마와 아이들이 깨끗한 환경에서 올겨울 건강하게 보냈으면 좋겠다”라며 “앞으로도 도움의 손길이 필요한 곳이라면 바르게살기 위원들과 함께 앞장서서 봉사하겠다”고 밝혔다.
