[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 2월부터 동두천시는 교통약자 특별교통수단의 서비스 대폭 개선을 위해 운전원 2명과 임차택시 3대를 추가 확보해 이동지원센터 운영에 나선다고 밝혔다.

이번 추가 확보는 개인택시와 임차계약을 맺고 비휠체어 교통약자 이동서비스를 지원하기 위한 것이며, 아울러 휠체어 탑재형 콜밴의 수요를 줄여 휠체어 장애인 이용객의 차량이용을 원활하게 하면서 차량을 따로 구매하지 않고 개인택시를 임차함으로써 비용 절감 효과도 기대된다고 했다.

동두천시 관계자는 “대체교통수단 도입은 휠체어 사용여부에 따른 맟춤형 배차로 이용자의 만족도 제고에 기여할 것”이라며 “임차택시 도입을 통해 의견을 수렴하고 효과 등을 분석하여 수요자 중심의 교통서비스를 더욱 확대할 나갈 것”이라고 전했다.

한편 동두천시는 2009년 교통약자 특별교통수단 1대로 시작해 현재는 임차택시 특별교통수단까지 19대를 운영하고 있으며, 2021년에는 장애인 및 교통약자의 체육 및 문화활동을 지원하기 위해 대형버스를 구입해 이용하는 시민들로 부터 좋은 호응을 얻어내기도 했다고 밝혔다.
