[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 12월 23일 동두천시 중앙동 새마을협의회는 겨울철 취약한 주거환경에 놓인 관내 독거노인 가구 방문하여 연탄 나눔 봉사를 펼쳤다고 밝혔다. 

이번 봉사는 열악한 주거환경으로 난방이 취약한 복지사각지대 5가구를 선정하여 가구당 200장씩 연탄이 지원됐으며, 중앙동 새마을협의회원뿐만 아니라 새마을부녀회원까지 이른 아침 손발을 모아 봉사활동에 참여했다고 했다.  

차유철 새마을협의회 회장은 "장기화 된 코로나 19로 몸과 마음이 추워졌지만 연탄 봉사로 회원들의 훈훈한 마음이 각 가구에게 전달되었으면 좋겠다."고 말했다.

이춘우 중앙동장은 "오래된 가옥이 많은 중앙동 취약계층을 위해 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 힘써 주신 새마을 회원분들에게 감사드리며, 연말연시 주민들에게 온기가 전해져 따뜻한 겨울을 보내시길 바란다."고 밝혔다.
