[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동두천시장애인단체총연합회는 지난 24일, ‘제42회 장애인의 날 기념 행사’를 개최했다. 

행사는 동두천시 평생학습관 한울림 공연장에서 최용덕 동두천시장과 정문영 시의회의장을 비롯한 기관단체장, 시민, 장애인 가족 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.

장애인의 날은 매년 4월 20일로 장애인들의 행복권을 향해 한걸음 나아 가고자 지정된 법정기념일이다. 

동두천시에서는 코로나19 확산 방지를 위해 2020년 행사를 취소한 이후 최근 사회적 거리두기 해제에 따라 일정을 늦춰 3년 만에 행사를 개최하여 더욱 뜻깊은 시간이었다.

최용덕 동두천시장은 축사를 통해 “코로나19로 힘든 여건에서도 장애인 복지 증진을 위해 힘써주신 장애인단체장님들과 유공자분들께 감사의 말씀을 드리며, 오늘 행사로 회원들 간 화합을 다지는 시간이 되기를 바란다”고 전했다. 

한편 이날 기념식에 앞서 식전행사로 장애인복지단체에서 준비한 장구, 기타, 댄스, 난타 등 공연 및 시 낭송이 진행돼 행사장 분위기가 한껏 고조되었고, 야외공간에서는 각 단체별로 부스를 운영, 장애인 인식 개선을 위한 캠페인을 진행하며 시민들과 소통하는 시간을 가졌다.
