이날 기념식은 코로나19의 영향으로 동두천시장, 동두천시의회의장, 보훈단체협의회장, 군 관계자 등 최소인원만 참석하여 진행됐고, 사회자의 개회사를 시작으로, 국민의례, 표창 및 감사장 수여, 6·25전쟁 영상시청, 추모사 등의 순서로 진행됐다고 말했다. 

유재중 재향군인회장은 “6·25참전용사 여러분을 모두 초청하여야 하나, 코로나19로 인해 그러지 못한 점에 양해를 부탁드리며, 기념식을 위해 참석 및 협조해주신 모든 분들께 진심으로 감사드린다”며, “6·25참전용사 여러분 한분 한분이 지금의 대한민국을 있게 하셨고, 여러분들의 희생과 용기는 우리들 마음 속에 깊이 새겨져있다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

한편, 최용덕 시장은 “6·25전쟁 제71주년 맞아 대한민국 자유민주주를 지키기 위해 혼신을 다해 싸우다, 한줌의 흙으로 순국하신 호국영령들께 삼가 고개 숙여 명복을 빌며, 참전용사 한분 한분이 대한민국의 역사이고, 거룩한 희생과 용기는 자손만대에 전해질 것이다”라고 전했다.
