[남상훈 기자 = 동두천] 지난 26일 동두천시 지역발전 범시민대책위원회는 경기도의회 염종현 의장, 최종현 보건복지위원장을 차례로 만나 경기 동북부권 공공의료원 동두천 유치 당위성을 담은 건의문을 전달했다고 밝혔다.

이번 면담은 지난 1일 김동연 경기도지사에게 공공의료원 유치 서명부와 건의서를 전달한 것에 이어 도의회 차원의 관심과 지지를 끌어내기 위한 후속 행보의 일환이다. 

한편, 동두천시는 지난달 경기 동북부권 공공의료원 유치를 위한 온라인·오프라인 서명운동을 통해 11만 명이 서명에 동참하는 등 그간 지역발전에 목마른 동두천시민의 뜨거운 관심과 열정을 보여줬다. 

또한 제생병원 활용해 2천억 원 이상의 혈세 절감과 2년이내 신속한 개원 경기 동북부권역 의료취약지로 지정된 가평·동두천·연천의 중심이라는 지리적 이점을 내세우며 공공의료의 공평한 접근 기회 보장 차원에서도 동두천시가 최적이자 최선의 입지라고 강조하고 있다.

김승호·심우현 범대위 공동위원장은 “동두천시는 70년 넘는 세월 동안 대한민국을 묵묵히 지키며 제대로 된 변화의 기회조차 가질 수 없었다”라면서 “공공의료원 동두천 유치는 ‘사람 중심, 민생 중심’의 경기도를 열어가는 시작이라고 확신한다”라고 말했다.
