[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 15일 최용덕 동두천시장은 동두천중앙역 인근 전철고가하부에 위치한 ‘두드림 생활체육광장’ 조성사업 현장을 둘러보며 현장행정을 펼쳤다고 밝혔다.

동두천시는 시민들에게 쾌적한 생활체육 도심 환경을 제공하고자 국가철도공단으로부터 동두천중앙역 인근 전철고가하부 3개 공간 1,690㎡을 사용허가 받았다고 했다. 

첫 번째 전철고가하부 공간 420㎡에 시민들의 체육활동과 쉼터 공간 제공을 위해 생활체조쉼터광장을 지난 10월말 조성하였고, 나머지 2개 공간은 주민 의견을 반영해 내년까지 생활체육시설을 단계적으로 조성할 계획이라고 전했다.

동두천중앙역 주변은 구도심과 신도심 사이에 위치해 있어 주거와 상업시설이 밀집되어 있고 유동인구가 많은 초역세권 지역이며, 경원선 전철하부 4.6㎞ 구간에 메타세쿼이아길, 산책로, 자전거도로, 운동시설 등 공원체육시설이 잘 조성되어 있다고 했다.

최용덕 시장은 이날 두드림 생활체육광장에서 진행된 시체육회 노르딕워킹 생활체육교실 참여자들에게 “코로나19로 시민 여러분의 피로도가 많이 쌓였다”며 “두드림 생활체조쉼터광장이 건강한 여가 활동과 체력증진의 공간이 되기를 바란다”고 전했다.
