[남상훈 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 23일 포천시는 철원군청에서 포천-철원 고속도로 조기 착공을 위해 철원군과 공동대응 주요내용으로 하는 업무협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

협약식에는 백영현 포천시장, 최춘식 국회의원(경기 포천시·가평군), 한기호 국회의원(강원 춘천·철원·화천·양구 을), 이현종 철원군수, 포천시의회 서과석 의장, 철원군의회 박기준 의장 등 6명이 참석하여 업무협약을 체결했다. 또한 포천시의회와 철원군의회 의원, 그리고 시·군의 민간 대책위원회 공동위원장도 함께해 자리를 빛냈다.

이날 참석자들은 협약서에 서명하고 공동건의문을 채택하며 ‘포천-철원 고속도로’ 조기 착공에 대한 서로의 의지를 확인했으며 협약서는 고속도로 조기 착공을 위한 공동대응, 실무협의체 구성 및 관광, 산업, 교통, 농·축산업 등 주요 역점사업에 대한 연계·발전 등의 내용을 담고 있다.

포천-철원 고속도로 사업은 제2차 고속도로 건설계획(’21~’25)과 대통령 공약사항에 반영되어 포천시 신북면에서 철원군 갈말읍까지 26.5km를 건설하는 사업으로 총사업비는 1조 1,703억 원이다.

백영현 포천시장은 “수도권 북부지역의 불균형을 해소하고 구리-포천 고속도로 신북IC 인근의 심각한 교통문제를 해결하기 위해 포천-철원 고속도로의 조기 착공이 절실하다.”면서 “신북, 영중, 영북면 등 고속도로가 통과하는 지역의 경제를 활성화 할 수 있는 방안을 강구해 고속도로 건설과 지역개발이 동시에 이뤄질 수 있도록 추진에 만전을 기하겠다.”고 말했다.
