[김현우 기자 = 속초] 속초시는 지난 21일 친환경 에너지 혁신기업인 ㈜천일에너지와 강원도에서 최초로 상차-운반-처리를 원스톱으로 추진하는 속초시 폐목재 무상위탁처리 업무 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 협약은 그동안 폐목재의 전문위탁업체 처리 과정에서 발생하는 예산을 절감하고 폐자원의 재활용률을 높이기 위해 추진하는 것으로 속초시에서 발생하는 폐목재류를 각종 산업시설의 화석연료 대안 재료인 우드칩 등으로 가공하여 사용하게 된다.

협약 기간은 1년 단위로 재계약하며, 운영상 문제가 없을 시 장기적으로 지속될 예정이다.

폐목재의 우드칩 재활용은 전 세계적으로 심각한 기후위기 해결방안 중 하나로 정부는 2030 국가 온실가스 감축목표(NDC) 및 2050 탄소중립 시나리오를 수립하여 탄소배출 저감을 위해 노력하고 있으며, 속초시는 이번 협약으로 전 세계적 기후위기 해결에 적극 동참하게 됐다.

이병선 속초시장은 “탄소중립 정책을 지속적으로 발굴·추진하여 미래세대를 위한 전 세계적인 기후위기 해결에 적극적으로 동참하겠다.”라고 말했다.
