[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 포천시는 포천-철원 고속도로 조기 착공의 본격적인 추진을 위한 범시민 서명운동을 시작했다고 전했다.

시는 그동안 구리-포천 고속도로 종점인 신북IC에서 발생하는 병목현상을 해결해 교통정체를 해소하고, 포천시 북부지역의 발전 및 향후 세종에서 포천을 거쳐 원산으로 연결되는 남-북 고속도로 인프라 조기 구축 등을 위해 고속도로 조기 착공을 추진해왔다.

포천시 관계자는 “포천-철원 고속도로는 ‘제2차 고속도로 건설계획(’21~’25)‘에 남북교류협력을 대비하는 고속도로로 반영됐다. 윤석열 대통령의 경기지역 공약사항에도 반영된 사업으로, 낙후된 수도권 북부지역의 발전을 위해 반드시 필요한 사업이다.”고 말했다.

포천시는 9월 중 지역구 국회의원 및 철원군과 협약을 체결하고, 올해 내 중앙부처 등 관계기관을 방문하여 건의할 예정이다.

백영현 포천시장은 “포천-철원 고속도로는 통일을 대비한 한반도 중심의 고속도로 역할을 할 것이다. 고속도로 조기착공과 첨단기업 유치 등 시민을 위한 사업을 적극 추진할 계획이다.”고 말했다.
