홍천군이 어린이보호구역 내 교통사고 예방을 위해 노력하고 있으며, 폐지되는 노상주차장은 홍천초등학교 인근 일레븐스포츠~태양연립 구간 21면과 남산초등학교 인근 새마을금고~영호네숯불갈비 구간 12면, 홍천어린이집~우리복지센터 구간 26면이고, 군은 또 남산초등학교 주변 교차로에 LED 바닥신호등을 설치했다고 전했다.
