운전자들이 어린이보호구역에 대한 경각심을 높여 감속을 유도하도록 노면표지와 보호구역 표지판 개선 및 미끄럼방지포장을 설치했고, 특히 어린이들의 안전한 교통 및 보행환경을 위하여 신천초등학교 어린이보호구역 통학로 개선사업을 추진하여 안전펜스 및 횡단보도 설치, 통학로 유색 도색으로 안전한 등·하교길을 조성했다고 전했다.

또한, 보산초등학교와 송내초등학교 앞 횡단보도에 신호대기 중 서있는 어린이들이 더욱 잘 보일 수 있도록 해주는 옐로카펫을 설치했으며, 생연초등학교 정문 앞 등 13곳에 무인교통단속장비 설치, 사동초교 후문 앞 등 2개소에 교통신호등을 설치하여 어린이 교통안전에 크게 기여할 것으로 예상된다고 했다.
