[서종협 기자 = 영월군] 영월군(군수 최명서)은 관내 3개 초등학교의 안전한 통학공간을 확보하고 안전사고 예방을 위한 어린이보호구역 노후시설 개선사업을 마무리 했다고 밝혔다.

영월군은 총 8억6000천만원의 예산을 투입하여 에듀버스 승·하차장 설치, 도로포장 개선, 인도정비, 교통안전표지판 교체, 보행자 안전휀스  등을 시공해 어린이 안전을 확보할 수 있게 했다.

특히, 청령포초 일원 어린이보호구역 개선사업은 주행 및 주차차량이 뒤섞여 위험했던 구간에 에듀버스 승·하차장을 신설하였으며 인도를 노란색으로 도색하여 어린이보호구역의 시인성을 확보하여 교통 환경 개선에 크게 호응을 받고 있다.

김재구 안전건설과장은 “어린이들의 통학길이 더 안전해지길 바라며, 교육청·학교와 협조해 안전한 보행환경 조성을 위한 사업을 지속적 발굴·추진하겠다.” 라고 밝혔다.

한편, 어린이보호구역 내 옐로카펫, 노란발자국 및 신호등, 보행신호 음성안내 보조장치 등 어린이 보행 안전 증진을 위한 다양한 사업을 추진할 예정이다.
