[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 원주시는 초등학생들의 안전한 등하굣길을 위해 교통안전시설 개선의 하나로 어린이 보호구역 개선사업을 완료했다고 밝혔다.

태장초, 단구초, 문막초, 우산초, 동화초 등 5곳을 대상으로 사업비 7억 원을 투입해 교통표지판, 울타리, 보·차도 등을 정비했다.

특히, 올해는 태장초등학교 어린이보호구역을 표준모델 대상지로 선정해 기존 시설·도로 위주의 보호구역 설정 방식에서 벗어나 면·공간 단위로 보호구역을 정비했다.

차로 일부를 축소하고 보도 개설, 보행 친화적 포장, 안전표지, 미끄럼방지 포장 및 노면 표시 등 시인성 강화에 주안점을 두고 추진했다.

원주시 관계자는 “우리 아이들의 통학로가 더욱 안전해지길 바라며, 앞으로도 어린이보호구역 교통안전을 위한 사업을 지속적으로 발굴해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
