[서종협 기자 = 태백시] 태백시(시장 이상호)는 사업비 1200만원을 들여 올해 말까지 관내 초등학교 3개교 주변에 5개의 일반표지판을 태양광 LED 교통표지판으로 교체·설치할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

태양광 LED 표지판은 빛이 강한 주간에도 반사체를 통해 시인성이 탁월하며 야간이나 우천시에는 자체적으로 빛을 밝혀 어린이보호구역이 시작됨을 선명하게 표출해 운전자가 쉽게 인지할 수 있다.

표지판 교체 장소는 △황지중앙초등학교 주변 2개소 △ 태서초등학교 주변 2개소이며, 표지판 신규 설치 장소는 △상장초등학교 주변 1개소이다.

시는 설치 후에도 LED 표지판이 효율적으로 작동될 수 있도록 표지판에 부착된 태양광 집열기의 먼지제거 등 지속적인 관리도 실시할 예정이다.

시 관계자는 “이번 사업을 바탕으로 운전자의 경각심을 향상시키기고 감속운전을 유도해 어린이 교통사고 예방에 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.
