[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 포천시는 어린이들의 안전한 보행을 위해 어린이보호구역 내 횡단보도에 LED 바닥신호등을 설치했다고 밝혔다. 

바닥신호등을 설치한 곳은 왕방초, 송우초, 포천초, 영북초 등 4개소로, 어린이보호구역 중 보행자의 통행이 빈번하고 횡단 교통사고 위험요소가 많아 교통안전시설 개선이 요구되어 온 곳이라고 했다.

LED 바닥신호등은 횡단보도 대기선 바닥에 보행신호를 점등해 보행자에게 추가적인 신호정보를 제공하여 보행 편의와 교통사고 방지에 기여하는 보행 보조 장치라고 했다.

포천시 관계자는 “바닥신호등을 통해 스마트폰을 사용하는 보행자뿐만 아니라 고령자, 시야가 좁은 아이 등의 교통사고를 예방할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.”라며 “시범 운영 후 보행자 교통사고 예방효과와 안전성 등을 확인해 점차 늘려나갈 계획이다.”라고 밝혔다.
