[남상훈 기자 = 의정부] 오는 22일 의정부시가 지구의 날을 맞아 직동근린공원에서 열리는 어린이 환경 사생대회 행사에 홍보부스를 마련해 ‘제53회 지구의 날 기념 탄소중립 캠페인’을 진행한다고 밝혔다.

세계 환경기념일 중 하나인 ‘지구의 날’ 은 지난 1969년 미국 캘리포니아주 원유 유출 사고를 계기로 1970년 4월 22일 개최된 기념행사에서 유래됐다. 우리나라는 지난 1995년부터 민간 환경단체를 중심으로 행사를 추진해 2009년부터 매년 지구의 날을 전후한 1주일간 기후변화주간 범국민 홍보를 실시하고 있다.

의정부시는 지구의 날 당일 ‘제16회 의정부시 어린이 환경 사생대회’에 홍보부스를 마련해 범시민 홍보에 나선다. 또한 올해로 제15회를 맞는 기후변화주간은 오는 21일부터 27일까지로 ‘#오늘도 나는 지구를 구했다’는 주제로 추진된다.
