[김준호 기자 = 삼척시] 환경 화가이면서 표현주의 최아숙 작가의 “꽁치가 위험하다”를 주제로 한 이색 전시회가 개최되면서 삼척시민과 지역 환경운동가들의 주목을 받고 있다.

삼척시 부남미술관 주관 “뿔난 삼척시민들 꽁치 들고 교황청 가다” 프로젝트 일환으로 개최된 이번 전시회는 대한민국 기후위기 주범의 한 축인 석탄화력발전소의 환경파괴 위험성과 발전소 주변 지역 해양환경의 심각성을 알리고 지구온난화에 대한 공동체의 행동을 촉구하고자 하는 최 작가의 의지가 반영돼있다. 

최아숙 작가는 “꽁치는 바다 생태계의 대표적인 지표종으로 바다에서 꽁치가 사라지면 인류도 사라진다.”라며, “기후위기를 극복하기 위한 탄소중립의 메세지를 꽁치를 통해 알리고 싶다.”고 말했으며, 또한, “전시회를 통해 오래된 자동차에 꽁치를 그린다는 것은, 오래된 자동차를 리모델링 해서 더 오래 사용하는 것이 지구온난화를 막는 것에 일조하는 것인지? 새로운 차를 사서 탄소 배출을 줄이는 것이 지구온난화를 막는 것에 일조하는 것인지? 하나의 차에 두 가지 질문을 던지며, 꽁치를 그리는 작업을 통해 그 물음과 답을 관객들에 던지고자 한다.”고 전시회 참여 의미를 밝혔다.

본지가 취재한 이날 전시회에 최아순 작가를 돕기 위해 삼척시 환경운동가들이 참여하고 있었으며, 탈핵천주교연대 공동대표 박홍표신부와 민주당 동채삼정 한호연지역위원장 등이 방문하였다. 한편, 삼척시 석탄화력발전소 반대투쟁위원회는 600회가 넘도록 삼척 우체국 앞에서 석탄화력발전소 반대 선전 전을 진행하고 있으며, 기자회견·도보순례·삼보일배를 진행하며 기후위기의 주범 삼척블루파워석탄발전소 건설 중단을 요구하고 있다.

또한, 각종 언론 매체를 통해 석탄화력발전소 건설로 인한 삼척 맹방해변의 해양환경 파괴 현장을 알리는 등 기후위기의 진범으로 삼척블루파워석탄발전소 건설 고발과 오로지 사람만이 사용하는 석탄·핵·플라스틱을 줄여 인류 절멸의 시간을 늦추려는 활동 등을 하고 있다.
