[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 류태호 태백시장 후보가 재선을 향한 본격적인 선거운동에 나섰다. 지난 4년간 태백시를 이끌어 왔던 류 후보는 다시 한번 시민들의 지지를 얻기 위해 거리에 뛰어들었다.

23일 오전 류 후보는 시민들과 인사를 나누며 하루를 시작했다. 거리에서 만난 시민들에게서 태백시가 나가야 할 방향에 대해서 청취했다. 

시민들과 소통을 중요시하는 류 후보는 현장을 통해 시민의 목소리를 경청하는 일을 최우선으로 하고 있다. 

류 후보는 6.1 지방선거에 출사표를 던지며 ‘행복한 태백시’라는 슬로건을 내세웠다. 그는 지난 4월 26일 출마 기자회견 당시 “지난 4년간 능력과 체력이 닿는 데까지 지역 활성화를 위해 앞만 보고 뛰었다. 민원행정 분야 강원도 최우수 기관 선정, 공공기관 청렴도 평가등급 4등급에서 2등급 상향 등을 이뤄냈지만, 아직 갈 길이 멀다. 태백시민과 함께 한 걸음 더 나아가겠다”라고 재선 도전의 변을 전했다.

류 후보는 2011년 재·보궐선거에서 민주당 후보로 태백시의원 당선 된 이후 2018년 제7회 전국동시지방선거에서 더불어민주당 후보로 태백시장 선거에 출마해 당선됐다. 

류 후보를 지지하는 태백시민들은 류 후보의 강점으로 4년간 이뤄냈던 성과들을 이야기한다. 쇠락해가는 태백시에 활력을 불어넣을 적임자라고 평가한다.
