[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 양주시는 지난 19일, 귀뚜라미그룹과 양주시 인재 육성을 위한 장학금을 지원 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이날 협약식에는 양주시 학생들의 꿈과 희망을 응원하기 위해 올해 3,000만 원의 장학금을 양주시 학생들에게 지원하는 협약서에 서명했다.

시는 모두에게 평등한 교육 기회를 제공하고자 하는 귀뚜라미그룹의 뜻에 따라 관내 대학교·고등학교에서 고루 장학생을 추천받아 총 24명(대학생 3명, 고등학생 21명)에게 장학금을 전달할 예정이다.

서상원 귀뚜라미그룹 상무는 "이번 장학금이 배움에 어려움을 겪고 있는 가정의 학생들에게 힘이 되길 바란다"며 "귀뚜라미그룹은 앞으로도 기업의 사회적 책임을 다하기 위해 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다.

강수현 양주시장은 "지역의 어려운 학생들에게 큰 힘을 보내주신 귀뚜라미그룹에 감사의 마음을 전한다"며 "양주시의 미래를 이끌어 나갈 지역인재 육성에 최선을 다하겠다"고 답했다.

한편, 귀뚜라미그룹은 1985년에 창업주인 최진민 회장이 사재를 출연해 설립한 귀뚜라미문화재단을 통해 장학사업, 학술연구지원사업, 교육기관 발전기금 등 다양한 사회공헌 사업을 추진하여 37년에 걸쳐 총 480억원을 사회에 환원하는 등 나눔 경영을 실천해 시업의 사회적 책임을 다하고 있다.
