[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 2017년 12월 22일 의정부시는 전국 최초로 역사 하부공간을 활용한 의정부가재울도서관을 가능역에 개관했다고 밝혔다.

 

기존 노숙자와 저소득층을 위한 무료급식을 시행하던 공간에 환경개선 및 도시재생의 목적으로 공공문화시설인 도서관을 건립했으며, 개관 이후 4년간 가재울도서관은 가능역 주변 환경개선과 도시재생을 목적으로 다양한 활동을 진행했다고 했다.

 

민선 7기 역점사업인 ‘The G&B City 프로젝트’와 연계한 ‘도서관 이야기길 조성’과 ‘초록빛정원 원예 수업’, 비대면 시대 노인 인구의 디지털 소외를 막기 위해 생활 속 디지털 기기 활용법을 배우는 ‘어르신 디지털 문맹 탈출 프로그램’등 문화재생 특화 프로그램을 지속 운영하고 있으며, 이와 함께 도서관의 역할을 위해 시민의 독서 활동을 지원하는 비대면·대면 독서 프로그램도 진행하고 있다고 했다.

지역사회 내 다양한 계층의 독서에 대한 관심을 유도하고 보다 깊은 책 읽기를 할 수 있도록 다양한 프로그램도 함께 운영하고 있다고 전했다.

 

매월 사서 컬렉션 주제를 환기시키고 추천 도서에 대한 관심을 높이기 위해 주제와 연계된 하루 수업과 이벤트를 진행해 이용자의 호응을 얻었으며, 이와 함께 가재울 도서관에서는 성인 대상으로 에세이를 배우고 작품을 완성하는 ‘나를 담는 그릇, 에세이 쓰기’와 책을 읽고 서로의 생각을 나누는 ‘독서토론 콘서트’, 지역아동센터와 연계한 정보소외계층 독후 프로그램 등 보다 깊은 책 읽기를 지원하는 상·하반기 독서 활동 교육을 제공하고 있다고 했다.
