[장선희 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 동해시가 급격한 인구 감소화 노후 건축물이 밀집되어 있는 송정동 일원에 '도시재생 뉴딜사업'을 본격 추진한다고 밝혔다.

송정지역은 대규모 항만 개발과 산업단지 입지 등 주변 여건 변화에 따른 급격한 인구 감소로 지역경기 침체가 지속되고 있으며, 주거여건이  열악하고 도심이 지속적으로 낙후되고 있는 상황이다.

이에, 시는 친환경 주거 재생을 통한 정주환경 조성과 KTX동해역, 송정시장, 동해항 등 송정지역의 입지경쟁력을 활용한 자생적 성장기반 마련을 위해 국도비 등 170억원의 사업비를 투입하여 2026년까지 송정시장 일대 163,619㎡ 규모로 도시재생 뉴딜사업을 추진할 계획이다.

지난해 12월 도시재생예비사업에 선정되어 국비 2억원을 포함 총 4억원의 예산을 투입, 송정시장 일대에 막걸리 제조 및 체험·판매할 수 있는 거점시설을 조성중에 있다.

시는 오는 9월 정부 공모 신청에 이어 송정지구 활성화 계획안에 대한 주민공청회 및 의회 의견청취, 관계행정기관 협의 등 11월 최종 평가전 까지 행정절차를 마무리한다는 방침이다.

임성규 도시정비과장은 “고유자원을 활용한 스토리텔링, 도시브랜드화, 지역 상권활성화 등의 지역특화재생을 추진하여, 낙후된 도심 환경을 개선하고, 골목시장 및 노후상권의 자생적 성장기반 마련을 통해, 지역활력 증진은 물론 주민의 삶의 질 향상을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
