동두천시 최용덕 시장과 국회의원 김성원은 국토교통부장관 노형욱을 만나 동두천시 조정대상지역 지정 해제를 강력히 요청하였다고 했다.

동두천시는 “인구10만이 되지 않는 실정으로 5년 전에 비해 인구수가 4.9%나 감소되었으며, 신규아파트 공급조차 5년 동안 단 3곳에 불과하고 2018년부터 2020년 6월까지 계속해서 주택가격이 감소하였다. 또한 동두천시는 국가안보를 위해 70여 년간 미군이 주둔하였으나, 현재 미군감축으로 인하여 인구감소, 지역경제발전 저조, 초고령화 사회로의 진입 등 열악한 사항이다”라고 밝히며, “이러한 상황에서 단3개월의 주택거래량과 주택가격 상승폭을 보고 결정한다는 것은 매우 부당한 처사”라고 주장하였다.
