[김현우 기자 = 동두천] 동두천시는 안전한 교통환경 조성 및 교통사고 예방을 위해 관내 생연동과 지행동 일원 교통사고 다발 지역을 대상으로 중앙분리대 및 미끄럼방지 포장(2,520㎡)을 완료했다고 밝혔다. 

2022년 경기도 안전환경 조성사업은 시민 생활과 밀접한 생활 속 위험 요소 해소를 위한 안전시설 조성사업이다.

동두천시에 따르면, 위험교통지역에 대해 선제적으로 일제조사를 실시하고 시민들의 의견을 수렴하여 최종적으로 경기도에서 소방안전교부세를 지원받아 도비 8천만원, 시비 8천만원 등 모두 1억6천만원을 들여 안전한 환경에서 시민들이 보행할 수 있도록 경기도 안전환경 조성사업을 완료했다.

이번 공사 구간은 초등학교와 주택단지에 가까이 있어 상대적으로 많은 시민과 어린이가 이용하고 있는 곳으로, 노후화된 도로와 시설물의 교체가 시급한 상황이었으며 교통사고가 빈번하게 발생하여 미끄럼방지 포장이 필요한 곳이었다.

권영선 안전총괄과장은 “이번 미끄럼방지 포장 및 중앙분리대 설치로 아이들뿐만 아니라 차량 운전자들도 안전하게 도로를 이용할 수 있게 되었다”라며 “앞으로도 선제적으로 대응하여 안전한 동두천시를 만들어가겠다”라고 말했다.
