[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 23일 강릉시는 국토부와 공동으로‘2026년 강릉 ITS 세계총회 유치위원회 현지점검 회의’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 회의는 ITS 세계총회 유치를 위한 중요 관문인 현지실사(᾽22.6월, 강릉)와 평가회(᾽22.9월, LA)를 대비하여 실시되는 만큼 시에서는 철저히 준비했다고 했다.

ITS 세계총회 유치위원회는 국토부와 강릉시를 중심으로 19명의 중앙정부, 지자체, 연구기관, 단체 및 기업의 핵심 인사로 구성된 전문가 그룹으로, 전문경험과 식견에서 나오는 개선점을 제시하여 제안서 발표의 경쟁력 확보와 현지실사 준비에 큰 도움이 될 것이라고 했다.

ITS 세계총회는‘교통올림픽’으로 불리는 세계최대 규모의 교통관련 국제회의 및 전시행사이며, 강릉시는 대한민국 대표로 대만의 타이베이와 경쟁 중으로 오는 9월 최종 결정을 앞두고 있다고 전했다. 

강릉시 관계자는“ITS 세계총회 유치를 통해, 2026년까지 스마트신호체계, 스마트횡단보도, 자율주행지원, 주차정보시스템, 도로안내전광판(VMS) 등 첨단 시스템을 구축하여 교통체증 해소, 교통사고예방, 효율적 재난경고, 교통약자 편익증대 등 세계적인 스마트도시로 발전시킬 계획이다.”고 말했다.
