[김현우 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 강릉시와 국토부가 공동으로 추진 중인 「2026년 ITS(지능형교통체계) 세계총회」의 개최도시 선정을 위한 현지 실사단이 25일 강릉을 방문한다고 전했다.

아키오 야마모토 ITS 아태 사무국장 등 3명으로 구성된 현지 실사단은 지난 24일 한국에 입국하여 25일 강릉에서 강릉시와 국토부의 총회 유치 계획에 대해 듣고 올림픽파크 등 지역을 돌아본 후 평가 결과를 8월 중 발표할 예정이다.

2026년 ITS 세계총회 개최도시는 이번 현지 실사단의 점검 이후 9월 미국 LA에서 열리는 ITS 세계총회 개최도시 선정 회의에서 대한민국의 강릉과 대만의 타이베이 중 더 높은 평가점수를 받는 도시로 결정된다.

강릉시는 ITS 세계총회 유치 시 지능형교통체계 인프라 구축을 위한 국비 우선지원은 물론 90개국 이상에서 20,000여 명의 전문가와 30만 명의 관람객 방문으로 지역 경제효과가 클 것으로 판단하고 ITS 세계총회 유치를 위해 총력을 기울이고 있다.
