[김일중 기자 = 경기북부/강원] 지난 11월 2일 동두천시 생연·중앙 도시재생 주민협의체가 2021 경기도 도시재생 주민참여 경진대회에서 ‘경기도 도시재생지원센터 협의회 대표상’ 수상의 영광을 안았다고 밝혔다.

2021 경기도 도시재생 주민참여 경진대회는 도내 각 지역의 도시재생 추진 현황과 주민참여 사례를 공유하기 위해 개최하는 행사로, 올해 경기도 내 20개 팀이 참여하였으며, 예선을 거쳐 총 9개팀이 본선에 진출하여 경쟁했다고 전했다.

생연·중앙 도시재생 주민협의체는 지난 2019년부터 결성되어 동두천시의 생연·중앙동 원도심 일대를 기반으로 지역쇠퇴 현상을 방지하고 주민공동체를 활성화시키기 위한 활동을 이어가고 있는 주민 조직으로, 최근에는 ‘우리동네 공구대여소’ 운영을 지원하며 지역 내 주거취약계층 대상 집수리 봉사, 노년층 대상 쉼터 의자 제작 보급 사업, 원도심 인근 환경정비 활동 등 다양한 활동을 전개하고 있다고 했다.

생연·중앙 도시재생 주민협의체는 다양한 활동을 통해 지역의 실질적인 변화를 야기하고 주민들의 삶의 질 향상에 기여하는 마을공동체를 구현한 점을 높게 평가받았다고 했다.
