의정부시는 일반 노동시장으로 진입이 어려운 국민기초생활수급자 및 차상위계층을 위한 자활사업을 시행하고 있다고 했다. 

자활사업은 저소득층에게 근로 기회를 제공하여 취업의욕을 높이고 직장생활에 필요한 기초능력을 습득할 수 있도록 지원하는 ‘경과적 일자리’ 성격을 지닌다고 말했다.

의정부시는 저소득층의 다양한 역량과 환경에 부합하기 위해 청소, 간병, 카페, 편의점, 임가공, 카드 배송, 식판 세척, 복지도우미 등 다양한 일자리 모형의 자활사업단을 구성하여 운영하고 있다고 했다.

이번에 개소한 카페 2호점 및 편의점 4호점은 기존의 카페 1호점과 편의점 1~3호점의 성과를 바탕으로 확장 개소된 것으로, 사업단 개소에 들어간 예산의 일부는 그동안 자활참여자들이 벌어들인 매출 적립금이라는데 큰 의미가 있다고 했다.

남윤현 복지정책과장은 “자활사업단이 코로나19 장기화로 얼어붙은 고용시장을 녹여줄 성공적인 일자리 모델이 되길 바란다.”라며, “추후에도 우수한 자활사업단이 개소하고 자활기업으로까지 성장할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다.”라고 말했다.
